12 hour time difference. Only a few hours of sleep on the plane and a restless night in the hotel and I was up with a whole day to explore before user research kicked off the next day.
My co worker has some old friends in Shanghai, we were going to get an insiders tour of this massive place. Grabbing a cab across town we met up with our local and jumped over to a fabric market.
Imagine a mall but denser and way more crowded, this 4 story market was full of every type of fabric possible and a tailor itching to make you something. And it’s that simple. You point at fabrics and based off your measurements you get dress shirts, suits, trench coats, anything for a fraction of the cost in the US. The quality and speed shocked us. 2 days after we visited we had practically a new tailored wardrobe ready for pick up.
